This was the best Fish and Chips experience I’ve had in a long time! The fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly crispy, and cooked to perfection. The chips were golden, crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside. The presentation was thoughtful, and the portions were more than generous. The tartar sauce and other sides complemented the meal perfectly. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and impeccably clean. I can’t wait to visit again!

Unfortunately things have changed, they've stopped doing brioche buns, the salads are very disappointing 😞 the prawns are chewy and cold.
This is based over the last 2 months, seems to have fallen down which is sad.

Food was cold chips undercooked
Sea bass fillets overcooked to the point of being stringy.
Salad put in boxes with food. So wilted and hot.
Haven’t been for ages and won’t be going back again.

Food was pretty good and the price was phenomenal. An absolute bargain for some very good chips and some decent cod, The batter wasn’t fully connected to the cod and the fish was not easy to cut as the batter was very crispy. The chips were fairly good and good portion of salt and vinegar on the chips. All sauce was on the house which was a nice touch to the place. A very good selection of seafood to get and overall a very nice place to be.
The portions were really good and a large cod and a large chips were enough to serve two very hungry lads. A nice open area with seats to look out at a nice brick wall but nevertheless the location was very good.

The food has gone down-hill in recent weeks.
I am unsure what has happened but the packaging has changed, all of our favourite food now comes VERY different. For example then wraps are tightly wrapped with not much substance, the fishcakes and chips are stale, and the sausages have changed to a very processed taste.
We used to order weekly but now we will try again in a few months.

This was an old review, i can say that it has improved back to how it used to be, i'm not sure what has changed but good job Trawlies :)

Absolutely fantastic chippy. Genuinely up there with some of the nicest takeaway cod & chips I've ever had. I'd recommend the salt & pepper squid as a starter too. Will be our go-to chippy for Saffron Walden - I think the Trawlerman is a real asset for the town. The staff are also very friendly, there is a nice ambiance about the place.

This chippy is a true jewel in Saffron Waldens crown, I went there for the first time tonight, the service was sublime, so many happy beautiful smiles from the gorgeous staff, they was helpful and so funny! The food was banging and the plaice (see what I did there lol) was absolutely spotlessly clean, it's by far the best chip shop I have ever been in, it was recommended to us by the Costa girl and she was soooo right it was by far the best food ever xxxxxxxxxx highly recommended

Over the years, the whole place, the food, the consistency has built up to being by far the best chip shop I've ever been to. Even on Friday nights, they stay consistent and prove to be the best chippy in walden, arguably the whole of southern England. They're pretty good

We have always chosen Trawlerman as we know the food will be spot on. The chips are cooked well, not too greasy. Quick delivery. Definitely recommend!

Best fish and chips in Saffron walden hand down. Ive certainly tried all the others. The trawlerman offers sustainable choices of fish which others do not and the quality and taste (fresh oil) makes a huge difference. Good work guys. keep it up.

Purchased cheesy chips today. They were awful, chips were microwaved yet hard and tasted stale/rubbish. I have never had cheesy chips from any other takeaway where they microwave them to melt the cheese. Just leave the cheese to melt on fresh hot chips. Won’t use this takeaway again as the last few times have been really disappointing and there are plenty of other places locally that offer better food. Pics speak for themselves! I am updating this review to say that I WAS a genuine customer and that your response to my review is laughable, blaming another chip shop Is a low blow and I won’t use your business again in the future.

Ordered a meal with delivery. Over £25 in value. Order arrived - no fish. Phoned to report shortage. 1/2 hour later, fish arrived. Fish cold on arrival
Of course by that time, everything else was cold too. Had to heat everything up and it wasn't as nice as it should have been. Very disappointed. I will think twice in future if I use trawlerman. (
